Electrical-Electronics Engineering Profession and its Fields of Interest

Application areas of Electrical-Electronic Engineering continue expanding rapidly. All the devices that we use in our daily lives and that work with electricity fall into the application areas of Electrical-Electronics Engineering. Electrical-Electronics Engineers work throughout the period of development and manufacturing of computers, mobile phones, communication systems, automobiles, satellites, kitchen gadgets, and many other devices and equipments that one may think of. With so many application fields, branching is important in Electrical- Electronics Engineering. A fundamental education and training is given to the undergraduate students so that they can work in any of the above application areas of Electrical-Electronic Engineering. The students will have real life opportunities to apply their learnings from the courses by means of graduation projects and thesis which are offered along the coursework in their final year.

The areas of work for Electrical-Electronics Engineers can be listed as follows:

Power Systems

This area will cover the following topics;

Introducing the principles of electromagnetic energy conversion, evaluating the analysis results of magnetic systems, and rotating machine basics.
Electrical machines, solving problems about them, and analyzing them by making the experiments, preparing reports.
Basic power electronics circuits. 
Transformers, The synchronous machine, Symmetrical components and sequence networks, transmission lines, Short and medium-length transmission lines, The long transmission line, Transmission line transient analysis
Distribution of electrical energy, Power Flow Calculations, Unsymmetrical faults, Stability analysis, Protection.

Computer Hardware Design

This area will cover the following topics;

Design of the microprocessor microarchitecture which corresponds to an instruction set architecture; operation principles of cache and virtual memory.
Microprocessor programming and embedded system design abilities
Design of the 32-bit microprocessor-based / 16-bit microcontroller-based systems and the programmming.
Algorithm and program development, data structures, functions that return pointers, file operations
Analyzing the algorithms using Object orienting coding techniques and finding a best possible solution from the point of view of resource management.
Network structure and working principles of network layers for communication of computers.

Digital Electronics

This area will cover the following topics;

The combinational and sequential circuit components and the techniques related to the digital circuit analysis and design.
Microcontrollers and Computer Architecture, incorparated with projects requiring highly complicated digital design techniques.
Microprocessor programming and embedded system design abilities.
Design of the 32-bit microprocessor-based / 16-bit the microcontroller-based systems and the programmming.

Electronic Circuit Design and High Density Integrated Circuits

This area will cover the following topics;

Basic concepts and underlying information in electronic circuits to furnish the students with the ability to analyze and design basic electronic circuits.
Analyze and design complex electronic circuits.

Control Systems

This area will cover the following topics;

Continuous and discrete time systems, realization and construction of different respesentations of the continuous and discrete time systems, controller and observer designs.
Analysis of linear and nonlinear experimental systems, design and implementation of the controller, programming PLC.

Signal Processing, Communication

This area will cover the following topics;

Systems and corresponding signals, mathematical methods developed in pratical problems, discrete-time signals and systems
Modulation and demodulation techniques, transmitters and receivers, noise.
Receivers and Mixer, Oscillator Design, Spectrum Allocations, Review of FT, Multi Dimensional Signals, FSK and PPM, Matched Filter Detection, PN Sequences, Probability of Error Analysis for DS Systems.

Electromagnetic Fields and Microwaves

This area will cover the following topics;

Electromagnetic model, time-variying fields and Maxwell's equation, electromagnetic waves, waveguides, antennas.
Linear wire antennas, loop antennas, arrays, traveling wave antennas, log-periodic antennas, aperture antennas, microwave devices.

 

Employment Areas of our Graduates

Since the areas of Professional Specialization groups are arranged according to the needs of our age, our graduates can choose the most suitable area in their own specialization among a wide range of employment areas.

The sectors that prefer our graduates in general are the following;

  • R&D departments of electronics industry

  • Communication (Telecommunication support hardware companies, GSM operators, etc)

  • Research institutes

  • Power stations and electric distribution companies

  • Programming and system administration

  • Academics
